desert portrait by shambok desert portrait by shambok
I found 2 images that were begging to be combined in a painting. as usual for my traditional work, its done in pastel. depicting ( what i would like to think) a nomad and his habitat.

Love the way you treated the specular highlight texture on ol' dude's head!  Great colors on it, too...

I relate realism to patience. the longer you send the more real it seems to look. After a while it comes quicker and quicker. I suggest you draw from life as often as possible.

Thank you! or should I say ...
(sorry about the terribly poor Polish ... I have been in South Africa most of my life)

To chyba ta 'ambicja' o której mówiłaś bo ja przeważnie słucham jazza i progresywni rocku. Mama mi zapełniła głowę Uriah Heep, Yes i Niemenem wiele lat temu ... hehehe
Tak się domyśliłem o twoim nicku :D

This is a really satisfying painting (pastel-painting). it's full of finished forms and leaves nothing to be wanted. very fulfilling feeling. compositionally, the concept doesn't match the skill of execution here. the idea can be pushed much farther, although i know that it was the images that inspired the piece.

Once again thanx for the comment ... and yes ... once again (as per usual) I rushed into the painting before considering the composition. Initially I though it would only be a practice run but it kind of just went past that.

Really great mood created in those cave and deserts at the back there. It seems you've mastered faces quite well. You could try painting some people into your backgrounds, pushing in some middleground, and then showing the scale I feel. That's just an idea and if you have time, but you could try it to start pulling the painting into a whole. It's good work though alright, good luck with your next pieces.
